Doctor John’s:
Depth from 40-130ft. Divers descent through a complex area of reef boulders and swim-throughs. The reef wall itself supports many corals and the deeper areas contain caves and tunnels, some with nurse sharks inside. Shallow areas feature rare corals, parrotfishes and sand-reef channels.
Great Cut
Depths from 35-130ft. A distinctive wall reef divided by a deep wide canyon with dramatic overhangs, giving the site its name. At the very end of the great cut, a crevice shelters grouper and schooling jacks. The seaward expanse of the reef is home to schooling snappers, barracudas, grunts and numerous cleaning stations. Several tunnels run from the main cut to the seaward site of the reef, where scalloped hammerheads sometimes pass.
North Pole Cave
Depth from 50 -150ft. A wall reef begins with a descent through the “North Pole Cave”, a deep chimney with two exits at different depth near the bottom of the wall. Along the wall to the North, a series of tall, deep cracks shelter-schooling jacks, while a large sandy patch at the bottom of the wall marks the turnaround point. Divers return to the boat along the rocky reef top.
Telephone Pole
Depths from 35-130ft. This is a wall reef that ends in a sandy basin littered with large reef boulders containing many caves and tunnels. On the south side divers can pass the Christopher Columbus monument that commemorates the famous explorer. Divers return to the boat through the sandy back-reef, where garden eels, stingrays, jaw fish, barracudas and hammerhead sharks may be seen.
Runway 10
Depths from 35-130ft. This is a wall with a jagged cut, just bellow the mooring, which the Nassau Grouper calls home. Divers return along the upper part of the reef, made up of spur and groove formations mixed with scattered patch reefs, where stingrays and barracudas are often found feeding.
Pyramid
Depths from 35-130ft. After swimming through a Small tunnel, divers head south where gorgonians and decorator crabs can be found along a series of coral hills. The back reef is an extensive patch-reef area featuring garden eels, stingrays, barracudas, juvenile fishes and triggerfish nests.
