Petit Chef

Club Med Ixtapa Pacific recently launched a new Petit Chef program in response to young guests’ requests to spend time in a kitchen just for kids. The professionally trained Petit Chef leads daily cooking lessons for six to 10 year olds during snack time in the Mini Club Med kitchen. Parents who do not know how to prepare a vegetable nori roll or fresh Mexican salsa can take heart, soon their youngster could soon be teaching them – pending a vacation at Club Med.

"“Research shows that children involved in the kitchen are excited to eat the foods they’ve made and willing to experiment with new foods—even vegetables,” comments Club Med corporate chef Erik Peters. “Cooking lessons during vacation are the perfect opportunity to expose children to healthy new foods. I’ve never seen so many six year olds gobble down nori!"

The Petit Chef program teaches kids how to prepare a different recipe daily, including nori rolls, guacamole, fresh salsa, handmade pasta, pizza from scratch, salads and light carrot cake. After creating exciting dishes under the Petit Chef’s supervision, children enjoy the meal that they prepared.

Each recipe gives children a new opportunity to learn basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety and practice following food preparation directions. These skills provide the perfect foundation for youngsters to help their parents in the kitchen and even teach them a few things upon returning home. The Petit Chef program integrates nutritional tips throughout the cooking classes and offers kids fun ideas on how to make healthy eating choices.
